Is your username taken? (website)

This website will let you know if your username is being used at other popular sites. It isn’t hard and I suppose if someone used my site name, they could just jump into the “non-taken” sites and use my common screen name there. Oh well… At least all the sites that I use are already [...]

Dr. Pepper, but what price is free? (opinion)

Today has been a programmer’s dream. In order to collect your free Dr. Pepper, you have to divulge your email address, zip code, first name, last name, date of birth etc… Wouldn’t you rather pay the $1.29 and just skip the hassle? Well, I took the time to document the process.
Fine, I’m in the business [...]

Amber Alert Notification System (website)

Tonight on my way home, I heard a commercial about the “Wireless Amber Alert System”. I’ve heard the commercial before, but never did anything about it. However, this time, it really struck me that I needed to sign up for it. So, I made a mental note to sign up when I got home.
Everyone (that I [...]

Campaign Ads in Videogames (opinion)

I’m not a big fan of advertising. I often decry the use of “google ads” on personal blogs, my gmail account, movies and television shows. It isn’t the advertising necessarily that I dislike, it is the subtleties that have crept into our consciousness.
All the judges on “American Idol” turn their beverage logos to face the [...]

Tilt: The Battle To Save Pinball (Movie)

I recently watched “King of Kong” (a documentary about someone trying to get the world record score on Donkey Kong). This is similar, but it is told from the point of view of pinball game designers. This hour long movie, tells the story about the attempt to save the pinball industry when it was going into decline.
The designers [...]

Random Searches (book + website)

Sometimes, adding a random word to your searches will bring back better results than just searching for the item or topic directly. A friend recently sent me some quotes from a book she was reading called “A Perfect Mess” (great book by the way)
“On a straight Google search for tennis players, the first sixty results
are [...]

Star Wars Rube Goldberg Machine

Someone made a Rube Goldberg type machine with a Star Wars theme. The person who filmed this did a pretty good job. There is obviously one camera = one camera angle during the whole thing. But, it never gets boring. The song at the end is funny too. Makes me want to do a search on [...]

Disney’s Main Street Electrical Parade

I saw this in 1978 and have very fond memories of it. I picked this version because it has the cleanest audio. Although a lot of the pictures are blurry, I think it adds to the experience. There are lots of “full runs” of the show but they are too long. This one is just [...]

Future servants of mankind

There is something missing from this video. A mop and a bucket. I think the robots should feed the dog, then, fold my laundry. Dancing is such a waste of battery power but every robot demo involves dancing. I case you didn’t notice these QRIO robots are very flexible and are starting to look human.

Sony QRIO Robots dance [...]

Buggy Software Tracking

Axosoft is “Bug Tracking” and “Integrated Help Desk” Software. They recently held an open call for musicians to do a song about their software. I’ve only heard these 2 entries. One is a video and one is an MP3. The tracks fall in the category of “Nerdcore”. Nerds singing about things they like the best [...]
